Did Moses dodge a brontosaurus on the way to the Promised Land?  Most scientists are probably going to be quite surprised to learn that dinosaurs roamed the earth as recently as six thousand years ago, and shared that territory with Bible characters.  That, however, is exactly the story that many Evangelical Christians in America are now sharing with their children. For years, many of these fundamentalist Christians denied the reality of dinosaurs, scoffing at even the discovery of bones and other evidence of their existence. Now the scientific proof that dinosaurs existed is hard to deny. Given that is the case, the new approach is to try to position dinosaurs as being mentioned in the Bible and present on the earth in Biblical times. One of the goals of this approach to link the Bible and the dinosaur would certainly be to counter any claims that would challenge Creationism and its hypothesis that God created the world in 6 days. Many Evangelical Bible teachers suggest that occurred about 6000 years ago http://www.answersingenesis.org/docs/2.asp and not the millions or so years ago that scientists claim dinosaurs lived on the earth, before humans ever came along.  

The insistence that science can only be tolerated when its findings correspond to current theories of theologians is nothing new. That insistence will also be about as effective at changing the facts as it has always been.  Despite dedicated persecution of Galileo by the church of his time, the earth is still not flat.  It wasn’t flat in Galileo’s time, and it will never be flat, no matter what the theologians believe. Perhaps our modern day version of the Dark Ages will be confirmed when Evangelicals declare that, not only did dinosaurs exist contemporary with humans, but a careful reading of the Bible also reveals that the earth is flat after all.
